Sock Problem

Got it out of a book. Dead Easy. Cat could do it.

A priest has some red socks, some black.

He takes two socks out of the draw. The chances of him getting a red pair is 1/2.

How many socks has he got at least?

What about if he's got an even number of black socks?

Any more?

  1. Sips is sceptical about whether a cat can actually do this. I back down. It is like Feynman and the grandmother.

You'd need an exceptionally patient and dedicated cat. It may well be that no such cat exists.
